Las Vegas Table Games – Where to Play Pai Gow Poker in Las Vegas

Las Vegas Pai Gow PokerPai Gow Poker is a great way to grind out free drinks in Las Vegas.  The pace of the game is slow.  The player will push about 40% of the time.  Another great aspect of Pai Gow Poker is that the players are often friendly.  It is one of the most social table games players will find in a Las Vegas casino.

The minimum bet for Pai Gow Poker varies significantly from one casino to another.  The most common minimum bet is $10.  Players will find it for $5 in locals casinos and at Binion’s in downtown Las Vegas.  Mid-tier Las Vegas Strip casinos will typically spread Pai Gow Poker for $10 or $15.  Higher end properties will require a $25 bet.  Wynn offers the most expensive Pai Gow Poker game with a minimum bet of $50.  The highest maximum bet for Pai Gow Poker is Las Vegas is at Venetian and Palazzo.  Those two sister casinos will accept up to $20,000 per hand.

There are two types of Pai Gow Poker available in Las Vegas.  One is the traditional game where players have the option of banking.  This game requires a 5% commission on wins.  There are no-commission versions of the game that pick a dealer push hand, such as 9 low hand or queen-high seven-card hand.  When the dealer makes the push hand disclosed on the table felt, all players push at the table, even if the dealer would have otherwise won.

Players may not bank in no-commission Pai Gow Poker versions. Unfortunately, some casinos do not disclose these rules.  Players may have to ask.

How to Play Pai Gow Poker

Players start by making a flat wager on the hand.  There are usually at least two other side bets.  Some Las Vegas casinos offer three.  These may include a progressive jackpot, high hand, crown hand and Pai Gow Insurance, which pays if a player makes a hand that does not have any pairs or better.

Once the players make bets, the dealer gives each player seven cards.  The seat that receives cards is determined from either rolling three dice or by the machine.  Seven cards in a row come out of the shuffle machine at the table.  The dealer also receives seven cards.

Players must set the seven cards into two separate hands.  These two hands are low and high.  The high hand must beat the low hand.  The high hand has five cards, while the low hand has two cards.

Once the player’s hands are set, the dealer shows its cards.  The dealer sets the hand based on the house way.  The dealer’s hand is then compared to each player’s hand.

If both of the player’s hands beat both of the dealer’s hands, the player wins.  If both of the dealer’s hands beat both of the player’s hands, the house wins.  If the dealer ties one of the player’s hands and wins the other, the house wins.  If the player wins one hand and ties the other, the hand is a push.  A tie between a dealer’s hand and the player’s hand is known as a copy in Pai Gow Poker.
